Client: Orbit Books

Orbit came to me looking for a LiveJournal template for one of their authors, who had just released her debut noval, Black Ships.

They were using a generic template on a basic journal account, but wanted something to compliment the cover of Black Ships, Jo Graham’s first novel.

Working with LiveJournal’s templating system is always a little challenging, especially when you’re dealing with a free account. Through tweaking the stylesheet, however, I was able to emulate nearly the exact result I’d been aiming for, and the journal ties in visually with the cover of the book.

After we'd finished with the journal, Orbit asked if I could create a website proper for Jo. Using the same design, I was able to add some effects that LiveJournal had refused me. The design was further amplified by a subtle animation effect—the reflection of the title ripples as though on the surface of an ocean.
