Triggers & Sparks Promotional Print Work
Client: Self-Directed/School Projects
I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating—I am above and beyond, the most overbearing, most nitpicky, most infuriating client I will ever have to deal with. Which means that, when doing self-promotional work, it usually takes me about five times as long as usual to get anything done.
Business Card
It took me far too long to actually have a business card. I decided to go for a vertically-oriented card in order to make it stand out from the usual cards while still fitting the format. Initially this was a far more complex project, having copy on both sides and a full-bleed, but then I decided to go for a “simpler” version that let the logo take centre stage instead.
Last-Minute Launch Party Pieces
When it came time for my launch party, I was totally unprepared. I’d just gotten back into town from an Ottawa road trip and had a two-page list of all the brilliant things I wanted to do and create prior to the party. This included, among other things, printing and framing most of my portfolio pieces and hand-embossing goody bags with my logo.
The embossing never happened, though I've got a great lino-cut of my logo to play with in the future. I went balls-out and then soon discovered that all I had left to work with was my trusty beloved black-and-white laser printer. Not so good.
So I improvised. I bought a package of multicoloured cardstock and some replacement blades for my utility knife, and started printing. By the time I was finished, there were shreds of paper and cardstock everywhere, but I had a great big pile of brochures and fridge magnets to include in my goody bags.
