COPAN Identity

Client: COPAN Offshore, Inc.

A small startup offshore drilling/supervision company, COPAN approached me with a challenge. They wanted a logo that would represent their Nova Scotian/South Shore roots while expressing the concept of "safety". And it needed to be representative of their work, and it needed to work well on a sticker.

For COPAN's business card design, I extended the reach of the light and played with its position in order to maintain balance. What began as a challenging project turned into one of my favourite designs.

I came up with an oil derrick/lighthouse hybrid (which underwent numerous different style changes before we settled on this one). The lighthouse element serves a dual purpose in terms of promoting safety ("Hey! Look out for the big pointy rocks down here!") and in representing the South Shore (which boasts about six million lighthouses per capita).
